Breeding Season Specials
We receive a lot of enquiries regarding breeding season; there is always great interest in Raptors, the Flow Country & Sea bird colonies. So Quayzone has developed these shorter specific tours. But remember just because your own a specific tour that you won’t see plenty of other species. Well also be going to places far off the beaten track and many that are not on the scheduled tour.
Due to the shorter length of these tours dates are flexible and can be organised in a fairly short time scale, if you’re interested in either of these trips fill in the enquiry form or call us. We’ll add dates to the calendar for the breeding season 2008 a little later in the year.
Raptors
Our three days will be spent seeking out birds of prey in the highlands. We’ll visit sites all over the area finding Golden and Sea Eagles, Merlin, Peregrine, Osprey and
Kites. Skye will be one of the great places we’ll visit as well as Loch fleet for Ospreys and the black isle for Red Kites. Peregrine can be view circling high above moor land and vertiginous sea cliffs as they hunt grouse and pigeons. If Raptors are you favourites, then you’ll have a great time on this tour.
Caithness Flow Country
Three days birding on the largest blanket peat bog in Europe in the middle of the breeding season is three days you won’t forget. This remote and primeval place is a wonder on the senses, far from tarmac roads and a good walk from the nearest forestry track; on still evenings a person’s voice can carry long distances, underlining the lack of ambient noise and human interference. This haven for nesting birds will give you a birding experience of the highest quality.
Seabird Colonies
If quantity and quality is what you want from your birding trip, we’ll take you to the seabird cities on the huge sea cliffs the drop into the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean. Huge numbers of seabirds nest on these vertigo inducing cliffs, the Puffins will charm you with their amiable manner, while the Arctic Skuas will not be so gracious if we get to close to their nests. We’ll also spend a night on a tiny island watching Storm Petrels come and go from the burrows.
Each Tour Costs £450 per person (Specialised tours are based on four nights Dinner B&B, and Three days birding.)
