Clothing

Scotland is renowned for it changeable weather conditions. We cannot stress enough the importance of clients being correctly equipped with suitable warm, waterproof clothing and footwear in both summer and winter. Please take our advice and if you don’t have waterproof clothing, then purchase these items prior to joining the tour. We want you to have an enjoyable holiday with Quayzone; there’s is nothing worse than being wet or cold. It will spoil your day and that of your fellow birders

Cairngorms


The Cairngorm hike is conducted in the summer only. The plateau is both beautiful and dangerous; we must point out that it may not be always be possible to visit the plateau in the event of adverse weather conditions.
Weather permitting; there will be a qualified and experienced local mountain guide with us during the tour.
We do not supply any clothing for our tours it is up to the clients to provide appropriate mountain clothing for this excursion. If you do not have this, then you will not be permitted to join this part of the tour.
We suggest that you go to a reputable mountain/outdoor pursuit retailer and explain to them where you will be going and purchase the necessary items. There will be more information regarding this in your tour information pack which will be sent to you on confirmation of a booking.

Insects

It’s advisable to bring insect repellent during summer periods we may well become prey of the voracious Highland Midge an insect with a blood lust second to none. Tics can also be found in areas that we will visit.

GPS

Quayzone also prohibits the use of GPS equipment during its tours. Due to the sensitive areas and species that we may encounter during the tours we cannot permit the use of GPS equipment. The use of such equipment will not be tolerated. See the Terms & Conditions.

Optics

Quayzone does not supply clients with optical equipment during the tour. We recommend a good pair of field binoculars as they are light and quick to use. You are welcome to bring scopes and higher grade optics.

Photography

Clients are welcome to bring their photographic equipment, however it must be stressed that it is illegal to photograph certain bird species as well as their nests and eggs without the correct permission.

Equipment

We would like to advise all of our prospective clients that we expect them to carry only reasonable amounts of equipment during the walking parts of the tours, as not to, inhibit the fluency of  their or other clients walks.

Terrain

During your tour we will visit potentially dangerous terrain; you’ll be advised of this prior to any excursion. Clients should be suitably equipped and dressed for such times, and be aware that they are responsible for their own safety. See the terms and conditions.
