Introduction

This tour gives the opportunity to see some of Scotland’s most iconic species including leking grouse, Crested tits, Golden and White Tailed Sea Eagles and many more as we travel west through mountain passes to the most famous hebridean island. On Skye we’ll walk along the shores of sea lochs at Snizort with the chance of catching a glimpse of those elusive sea otters along with some excellent birding. From its Northern tip of Totternish down to Elgol & Glen Slighachan in the shadow of the Cullin ridge, Skye will charm you with its beauty and its birds.

There’s a few treats to sample before we get to Skye, with the Black & Red Throated Divers on Loch Maree, and the Caledonian pine forests of Glen Affric. Capercaillies are another highlight during this East to West Coast journey through the heart of the Highlands.

A trip to the cairngorms and surrounding area will bring up some of the rarities that have become true birding pilgrimages. During the summer months the walk to the high montane habitat of the plateau will be a test on the legs as we look out for Golden Eagle, Dotterel, Ptarmigan and Snow Buntings.

The forests of Abernethy and Rothiemurchas should bring up some fabulous woodland species with the iconic Crested Tit and the Great grouse itself the Capercaillie. Crossbills are also frequently seen in these forests along with the chances of some mammals, like red squirrel and roe deer. Inches marshes should provide us with some great breeding waders during the season as well as some fantastic wintering waterfowl
